Westport Rivers is a family owned vineyard and winery. Bob & Carol Russell bought an old dairy farm in 1982 and planted the first vines in 1986 (40 acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Johannisberg Riesling).  Following further plantings in the late 1990s, they now have the largest vineyard (some 80 acres) in New England (planted entirely with vinifera varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Johannisberg Riesling, Pinot Meunier, Rkatsitelli, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris).

1997 Blanc de Blancs Ultra Brut
Very yeasty nose.  Very dry, with pure fruit on the palate.  Very crisp and clean.  88/100

2002 Chardonnay
A small element of this was barrique fermented, and some also underwent malolactic fermentation.  A creamy pure fruit nose.  Round very clean fruit.  Very pure.  Nice balance.  A good drinking and food chardonnay.  Very Good Indeed.   89/100

2004 Rosé of Pinot Noir
A tank sample.  Nice light fruity pinot noir nose.  Very light.  Very fresh.  Good.   85/100

2004 Pineau de Pinot
Made using their own eau de vie.  Light fruity nose.  Good fruity character, but also with very clear eau de vie flavours.  Nice character, especially on the finish.  Very Good.   88/10
