A lovely elegant Douro nose.  This is a very interesting wine indeed with bundles of interest and class.  Very Good Indeed/Excellent.  94/100

This will spend seven months in new oak.  It has a rich nose without the freshness of the Guru.  A big, complex palate with lots and lots of interest.  Very Good Indeed.  93/100

2005 Quinta do Vale Dona Maria, Sarzedinho, Douro, cask sample
A hugely attractive nose with brambles, leather and tobacco.  Very meaty and very young on the palate.  This will be bottled at the end of June 2007.  The 2005 is a favourite of Sandra Tavares, the winemaker.  Potentially Very Good Indeed. 92/100.

2005 CV, Quinta do Vale Dona Maria, Douro, cask sample
This is a field blend from a parcel of old vines from Dona Maria.  Fairly closed on the nose with broody black fruit and plums.  Very balanced palate, yet very very concentrated, with big tannins.  Potentially Very Good Indeed.  91/100

2005 Pintas Character, Douro, Wine & Soul Lda, cask sample
A field blend from an old vineyard, aged 18 months in 80% used oak and 20% new oak.  This is just a sample, but is the final blend.  Production is currently around 7000 bottles, but will increase.
There is dark fruit and chocolate on the nose.  Lovely fresh palate with bright clean fruit.  Lovely, elegant balance.  Very Good Indeed.  90/100

2005 Pintas, Douro, Wine & Soul Lda, cask sample
The fruit for the Pintas Douro red comes from a seventy year old vineyard and is all foot-trodden in lagares.  It has a very integrated rich nose.  Very balanced palate with interesting fresh fruit flavours and some concentrated chocolate plums flavours.  Very Good Indeed.  Potentially  92/100

2005 Pintas Vintage Port, Wine & Soul Lda
The grapes were picked two weeks after those for the table wine, from the same vineyard.  Only 3000 bottles were produced in 2005, which was a very small harvest.  It has a super nose with perfumed, violetty, plummy fruit.  Lovely palate: very open and expressive with lovely perfumed fruit and a remarkable purity.  Potentially Excellent.  95-96/100

2005 Quinta do Vale Dona Maria Vintage Port
A rather less characterful nose than the Pintas: much richer with more chocolate and plummy, pruney fruit.  A super rich, velvety palate.  This is sweeter than the Pintas.  Very integrated and more advanced than the Pintas.  Potentially Very Good Indeed/Excellent.  93-94/100
